FAQ’s

“How do I know if it’s actually trauma?”

Trauma isn't always about what happened to you, but how that experience has stayed with you.

I often describe trauma as an experience that changes the way you see yourself, others, or the world around you. It can affect how safe you feel, how you connect with others, and even how your body responds to everyday situations.

Sometimes, the experience is long over, but its effects are still present.

You don't need to compare your experiences to someone else's or decide whether they were "bad enough" to deserve support.

Through trauma counselling in Saskatoon, we can gently explore how your experiences may be affecting you today and work toward a greater sense of safety, understanding, and connection with yourself.

“What is Somatic Therapy?"

Your body experiences life alongside your mind. When you go through something overwhelming or traumatic, your nervous system responds in ways that are meant to protect you.

Sometimes, even after an experience has ended, your body continues to respond as though the danger is still present. You might notice tension, anxiety, a sense of being on edge, or difficulty feeling safe, even when you know you're okay.

Your nervous system isn't working against you. It's simply trying to protect you in the ways it has learned.

Somatic therapy gently brings awareness to the connection between your mind, body, and nervous system. By noticing physical sensations and learning ways to respond to them, we can help your nervous system become more flexible and recognize when safety is present.

Through somatic therapy and trauma counselling in Saskatoon, we can work together at a pace that feels comfortable for you, helping your body and mind find a greater sense of calm, safety, and connection.

“How does the sliding scale work?”

I believe that financial circumstances shouldn't prevent someone from receiving the support they need.

I offer sliding scale counselling in Saskatoon for individuals who don't have insurance benefits or have used their available coverage but would benefit from continued support.

Sliding scale rates are determined using a calculator that considers your financial circumstances, barriers to accessing counselling, and any unique challenges you may be facing.

My hope is to make counselling more accessible while recognizing that everyone's circumstances are different.

If you're wondering whether sliding scale counselling might be an option for you, I welcome you to send me an email so we can explore what's available.

“I’ve heard of EMDR but I don’t exactly understand what happens- what is it?”

Sometimes, difficult or traumatic experiences can leave us feeling as though a part of us is still connected to what happened, even long after the experience has ended.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy is a gentle, structured approach that helps your brain process distressing memories in a different way.

Using guided eye movements or other forms of alternating stimulation, EMDR supports your brain's natural ability to process and make sense of difficult experiences. Over time, memories that once brought overwhelming emotions or physical responses may begin to feel less distressing.

The goal isn't to erase what happened or forget your experiences, but to help you remember them without feeling as though you're reliving them.

Through EMDR therapy and trauma counselling in Saskatoon, we can work together at a pace that respects your comfort, helping you move toward a greater sense of peace, safety, and emotional well-being.

“Do I really need counselling? Other people have had it so much worse.”

It's natural to compare our experiences to those of others, especially when we feel like we should have been able to move past something by now.

There will always be someone who has experienced something different, or perhaps something more difficult. But that doesn't make your own experiences any less meaningful or deserving of care.

Something I've come to recognize over the years is that sometimes our deepest wounds aren't only shaped by the difficult things we've experienced, but also by the things we needed and didn't receive. Feeling safe, being understood, having someone listen, or knowing we mattered can leave a lasting impact when those needs go unmet.

You don't have to prove that your experiences were difficult enough to deserve support.

Through the counselling I offer at my Saskatoon office, my hope is to provide a gentle, welcoming space where we can explore what you've been carrying, understand how it's affecting you, and discover what healing might look like.

You are allowed to seek support simply because something has been hard.

“There are so many counsellors to choose from. Why should I choose you?”

Because I want you to feel truly heard and seen.

So much of what we experience with our mental health happens quietly, beneath the surface. We can carry an incredible amount of hurt, worry, and heaviness that the people around us may never fully see or understand.

I believe that everyone deserves a space where they don't have to explain away their feelings, minimize their experiences, or pretend that everything is okay.

I want to take the time to listen to your story, to understand not only what you've experienced, but how those experiences have shaped you and the way you move through the world.

My hope is that through our work together, we can gently begin to make sense of what you've been carrying and find ways to ease some of that weight.

At my Saskatoon counselling office, I offer a calm, compassionate space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported as you find your way forward.

You don't have to carry everything on your own.
